Galp announces the appointment of Georgios Papadimitriou as a Member of the Board of Directors and of the Executive Committee as COO Renewables & New Businesses. In addition, Galp announces the appointment of Javier Cavada Camino to the Board of Directors as an independent director.
Georgios joins Galp’s Board and Executive Committee on 1 January, 2022, after a distinguished career in power and renewable energy of 22 years, the last 13 of which serving Enel Green Power in Europe and North America, and most recently holding the position of CEO Enel Green Power North America. Georgios brings to Galp a vast international experience and leadership on renewable energy, which will be essential to accelerate both the development of our renewable energy portfolio, but also in the New Businesses such as the Battery Value Chain.

Javier joins the Board of Galp on 17 December, 2021. He brings a rich experience from 25 years in energy systems. Javier is recognised as a leader both academically and in business in innovative low carbon energy solutions businesses, most recently leading businesses in Wärtsilä and as the CEO of Highview Power. From 1 January, 2022, Javier has been appointed CEO of Mitsubishi Power EMEA. Javier’s experience and innovation mindset will be crucial to help guide Galp to develop profitable renewable and new energy businesses.

These appointments will be submitted for ratification by shareholders at the next Annual General Meeting.

Georgios Papadimitriou
Georgios studied Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens, received a BA in Economics from the American College of Greece and a MSc in Operational Research from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.
His professional path has evolved exclusively within the energy sector at international level, in various geographies and with diverse responsibilities.
During the first years of his career, he worked with several European majors on conventional power generation projects and gas and electricity trading. In the past 13 years, Georgios focused exclusively on renewable energy and became part of the Enel Green Power leadership team that helped transform the company into the global renewable energy leader of today with over 50 GW of installed renewable capacity. He assumed various leadership roles in Europe and the Americas, successfully leading transformation challenges and growth strategies through complex environments, as well as raising institutional and public awareness and support towards the energy transition.
Besides his executive roles, Georgios has served as Board Director in renewable energy associations worldwide, such as the American Clean Power and AWEA in the U.S., Solar Power Europe and SER in France.
Javier Cavada
Javier Cavada holds a PhD in industrial engineering and, among other awards, has been recognised as a Distinguished Alumnus by the University of Cantabria in Spain.
He spent 17 years in leadership worldwide positions in Wärtsilä Corporation, becoming president of Wärtsilä’s energy division and member of the corporation’s executive board in 2015. Cavada led the company’s drive toward 100% renewables, spearheading a deep transformation that enabled the company to become a leading system integrator. As of 2018, Wärtsilä had over 70 GW of installed power plant capacity in 178 countries.
In 2018, he joined Highview Power as CEO and President with the mission to drive the ambitious global expansion strategy for the company’s proprietary cryogenic energy storage technology. The company designs and develops long duration energy storage solutions for utilities and distributed power systems, accelerating the integration of wind and solar power enabling a 100% renewable energy future, already today.
From January 2022 onwards, he will take the executive lead as CEO and President of Mitsubishi Power EMEA.
Besides his executive roles in the energy storage industry, Cavada is Chairman of Gazelle Wind Power, and Board Director at renewable asset organisations such as the U.S.A. Energy Storage Association and the U.K.’s Bagnall Energy.
