Promote positive social impact

At Galp, it is crucial to ensure the sustainable development of our projects by protecting the environment and, whenever practical, creating a positive impact. We support the sustainable, fair and inclusive transformation of the communities where Galp operates.

To achieve our ambition, Galp is focused on the following drivers:

  • Encourage social dialogue and stakeholder engagement
  • Empower communities through social investment

Encourage social dialogue and stakeholder engagement

Galp aims to foster closer connections and relationships with customers, suppliers, partners, communities, governments, academia and other relevant stakeholders. Their insights present opportunities for mutual value creation that will benefit both the company and society.

Our stakeholders

We cultivate long-term partnerships with the countries and communities where we operate, to create value and mutual trust. Our key stakeholders can be grouped in four main groups with different purposes of engagement.

Engagement with Employees

Engagement with employees is essential to fostering a motivated, committed, and productive workforce that contributes to organizational success, while also ensuring a safe and healthy workplace that respects human rights.

Engagement takes place through key dialogue channels, including Town Hall events open to all employees across all geographies. These events cover topics such as the current context, future challenges, business evolution, the new governance structure and the need for business continuity. Additionally, we conduct employee engagement surveys and individual feedback sessions, and an online employee clarification platform is available to all.

Engagement with Clients

Engaging with clients is essential to building strong relationships, understanding their needs, and delivering value to enhance satisfaction and foster long-term loyalty. We actively involve customers and consumers—who are crucial to our company’s growth and longevity—through key dialogue channels such as customer satisfaction and experience surveys and call centers. By listening, understanding, and addressing their interests, needs, and expectations, we uphold principles of ethics, conduct, and transparency.

Engagement with Investors

Engaging with investors is essential to promoting trust and maintaining transparent communication, ensuring compliance while keeping stakeholders informed about the company's performance and strategic direction. By strengthening partnerships that support Galp’s financial strategy and project execution, we build long-term collaboration.

We maintain open dialogue through key channels, including regular engagement with investors and analysts, periodic market updates, quarterly results presentations and conference calls. Additionally in 2024 we collaborated with associations such as WBCSD, BCSD Portugal and UN Global Compact. These interactions provided valuable opportunities to exchange knowledge, participate in discussions, and influence important issues.

Engagement with Society

Engaging with society is essential to securing our license to operate, fostering community development, and making a positive impact. We build strong partnerships with suppliers and business partners to ensure reliable value chains and mutual growth while collaborating on industry goals, anticipating trends, and supporting relevant policies and regulations.

We also drive innovation through collaborative research and by leveraging diverse expertise. Our key dialogue channels include membership and participation in sector and technical association meetings, partnerships with NGOs, academic institutions, and research centers, as well as collaborative meetings with business partners. Additionally, we maintain quality and encourage continuous improvement through supplier audits, tender processes, and satisfaction surveys.

Double materiality assessment

In 2024, we concluded the first Double Materiality assessment process, incorporating the new EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requirements.

Through this process, we identify and prioritise the sustainability topics most critical for our business by including the perspectives of our stakeholders. According with the results of double materiality assessment it was identified the topics with impact and financial materiality that were embedded in our Sustainability Roadmap and for which Galp has established goals and targets, with progress being monitored and publicly disclosed. More information can be found at the beginning of each chapter of Part I (Sustainability JourneyStatement) of the Annual Report.

Empower communities through social investment

Social licence to operate

Securing a social licence to operate remains a top priority and entails ongoing dialogue and engagement with local communities and other stakeholders to transparently address the impacts of our activities in each context and geography where Galp operates.

The future of former Matosinhos Refinery as an urban regeneration project

Galp and Matosinhos City Council have already agreed on the guiding principles for the redevelopment project in the area of the former Matosinhos refinery, which are fundamental to the design of a Masterplan. The macro perspective of this redevelopment project is based on the ability to attract national and international mobilising investments that guarantee qualified employment, namely through the configuration of a technological hub, structured around a university campus, a technology park and business centres. The redevelopment should also guarantee a plural urban structure in its different scales and modes of mobility, applying the urban planning principles of 'Eco Smart Cities15', in harmony with the environmental ecosystem and respecting the specific characteristics of the seafront. Social impact on communities

The Galp Foundation is a private non-profit Public Utility entity, with the objective of deepening and promoting the Group's intervention in areas such as Citizenship and Social Responsibility.

The efficient use of energy, energy literacy and empowerment of communities is a major challenge in the context of the just energy transition.

Galp’s vision is to help shape carbon-free sustainable communities. It is our aim to promote this shared journey, empowering, supporting, and working side-by-side with society, advocating the development through the access to sustainable energy while protecting biodiversity, providing quality education, stimulating conscious energy consumption and by fostering social innovation and entrepreneurship.

Volunteering programme

Aligned with our social investment strategy, Galp’s volunteer program empowers employees with six days annually for community engagement. This initiative fosters internal alignment, skill development, and investment in local communities, with full support from our Executive Committee.

In 2024, 28% of our total workforce participated in volunteer activities, dedicating nearly 11,000 hours to community service, with a significant focus on responding to social emergencies.
